Etrion mulls over 96 MW in two new PV parks in Chile

(SeeNews) - May 20, 2014 - Etrion Chile, the local unit of solar power producer Etrion Corp (STO:ETX), will propose the construction of two photovoltaic (PV) parks of combined 96 MW in the northern Antofagasta region, according to data published by Chile's environmental authorities on Monday.

Aguas Blancas II, worth USD 180 million (EUR 131.5m), will have nearly 259,200 solar panels distributed in three sectors, with a nominal capacity of 32 MW, 24 MW and 16 MW, respectively. Located 67 km (41.6 miles) southeast of Antofagasta city, the facility will be connected to existing 66-kV lines of local mining firms.

The other project, dubbed Las Luces, will generate 24 MW through 86,400 modules near Taltal city. The investment will stand at USD 48 million.

Both plants will supply Chile's main power network SIC and could be built during 2015, according to Etrion.

Aguas Blancas I, which will produce 24.2 GWh a year, obtained its environmental permit last year. Additionally, Etrion participates in a consortium with Total (EPA:FP) and Solventus Energias Renovables for the construction of a 70-MWp solar park in Chile.
