Enel starts construction of 487-MW solar farm in Colombia

July 27 (Renewables Now) - Latin American utility group Enel Colombia said on Tuesday that it has started construction works on a 486.7-MW (direct current) solar farm project in the Colombian department of Atlantico.
The new Guayepo I & II solar farm will be the largest such plant in Colombia and South America, according to the company. It will feature over 820,600 interconnected solar panels.
Before Guayepo I & II comes online, the 187-MW La Loma will hold the title of Colombia’s largest solar farm and also Enel Colombia’s. The company said in May that the La Loma project was close to being 70% completed.
