Italian utility group Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) has launched construction works on a pair of power projects in Peru, seeking to install some 300 MW of wind and solar capacity.
The news was announced on Friday by the company’s subsidiary Enel Peru, which is building the projects through its renewables division Enel Green Power Peru.
The Peruvian unit started building a 177-MW expansion to the Wayra I wind farm in the department of Ica. The Wayra expansion project will entail an investment of USD 188.5 million (EUR 175.5m) and the installation of 30 pieces of 5.9-MW wind turbines, Enel Peru said.
The other project is the 122.59-MW Clemesi solar farm in the department of Moquegua, in which Enel Peru will invest USD 77.9 million to install over 200,000 bifacial panels.
Both power plants are expected to commence operations in 2023.
At present, Enel Peru’s only non-hydro renewable energy plants are the 132.3-MW Wayra I wind farm and the 180-MWp Rubi solar farm, which are also the largest power plants of their kind in the South American country, the company adds.
