Renewables firm Enel Green Power Chile, part of utility group Enel Chile, has obtained approval to initiate commercial operation of its 162.8-MW net Valle del Sol solar photovoltaic plant in the Chilean region of Antofagasta.
The solar farm is equipped with close to 407,000 bifacial monocrystalline modules installed in the middle of a desert in the Maria Elena municipality. After completing all trials leading to commercial operation, Valle del Sol will be capable of generating around 504 GWh of electricity annually, or enough to power over 168,000 Chilean homes, Enel Chile said in a press release.
As of the end of March 2023, Enel Green Power Chile operates 2,933 MW of net installed renewable energy capacity. In its portfolio it has 2,043 MW of solar, 715 MW of wind, 92 MW of hydro and 83 MW of geothermal power, Enel Chile said.
