Enel Chile kicks off construction of solar-plus-BESS plant in Santiago

Chilean renewables firm Enel Green Power Chile has launched construction of a 99-MW solar farm in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, its parent company said today.

The El Manzano solar farm, which will be paired with a battery energy storage system (BESS), is the firm’s first large-scale solar project in the Metropolitan Region and is part of a strategy to bring renewables closer to large consumption centres, utility company Enel Chile said.

El Manzano will be equipped with 162,000 bifacial monocrystalline solar panels of 615 W and 610 W installed over 185 hectares of land. The BESS capacity has not been specified.

Enel Green Power Chile expects the plant to produce some 226 GWh once in operation.

Enel Chile, as the parent group, has set a target to add 1,900 MW of renewables capacity through its 2023-2025 development plan, it said.
