Enel Chile gets nod to start commercial op of 204-MW solar farm

Chilean utility Enel Chile said on Tuesday it had secured approval from the grid operator to start commercial operation of its 204-MW solar farm in the Atacama Desert.

The Domeyko solar PV plant has already been feeding electricity into the grid, the company said.

Enel Chile realised the project on a USD-164-million (EUR 152.5m) investment. The desert solar farm in the Chilean region of Antofagasta occupies an area of around 606 hectares (1,497 acres), which has been populated with some 472,590 bifacial polycrystalline modules.

Domeyko is expected to inject around 590 GWh of power per year into the grid. For the utility, the latest milestone contributes to its plan to add 1,900 MW of new renewables to the grid by 2025.
