Nov 2, 2011 - Eletrosul, a subsidiary of Brazil's state-owned power holding company Eletrobras (SAO:ELET6), yesterday said it received a total 14 bids from entities interested in installing the largest Brazilian solar power generation plant, called the Megawatt Solar.
The deadline for participating in the international tender launched by Eletrosul ended on Monday, October 31.
The competing companies, which are bidding on their own or in consortia, are from Brazil, Germany, China, Spain, USA, Italy and Portugal.
According to Eletrosul, the list with the qualified bidders will be published in the Official Gazette. The entity offering the lowest price, while in the same time meeting all technical requirements of the project, will win the competition.
The whole process is expected to be completed within a month, with works on implementation of the venture starting in the first quarter of 2012.
The photovoltaic panels of the Megawatt Solar plant will be installed on the roof of the company's headquarters and the parking lot in Florianopolis, southern Santa Catarina state.
The facility will be able to generate one megawatt peak (Mwp).
The undertaking is budgeted at BRL 10.8 million (USD 6.2m/EUR 4.5m) and counts with financing from German development bank KfW.
