Eletrobras launches solar energy technology training centre in Bahia
Nov 7, 2011 - Brazil's state-owned power holding company Eletrobras (SAO:ELET6) on Friday launched a centre for solar energy technology training in Salvador, the capital of northeastern Bahia state.
The objective is to train technical personnel and conduct surveys in local households in order to assess the possibility of using home solar water heating systems.
The first centre of this kind was opened by Eletrobras on July 1 this year in Belo Horizonte, the capital of southeastern Minas Gerais state.
The centers, part of the so-called Procel Energia Solar project, are a result of Eletrobras' partnership with the UNA university. The project envisages the setting up of five more solar energy training centres, in the cities of Belem, Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Florianopolis.
In five years, 2,000 students will be trained to work with systems for solar heating of water.
