March 5 (Renewables Now) - Power producer Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina SA, or EGE Haina, will supply solar power from a 120-MWp plant to Dominican ferronickel mining company Falconbridge Dominicana, also known as Falcondo.

EGE Haina tweeted that the photovoltaic (PV) output will come from its Solar Girasol plant, which is being developed by Spain's Elecnor SA (BME:ENO) and is scheduled to commence operations in the first quarter of 2021.

Consisting of 300,000 solar modules, it is expected to generate some 240,000 MWh per year, enough to power 100,000 local homes. Located in a 220-hectare (543.6 acres) area in the municipality of Yaguate, San Cristobal province, the PV facility will be the largest of its kind in the Dominican Republic.
