Weekly renewables M&A round-up (Jun 27-Jul 1)
Jul 01, 2022 17:05 CESTOctober 11 (Renewables Now) - Portuguese renewable energy company EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) inaugurated on Friday a 252-MW direct current (DC) solar photovoltaic (PV) complex in Brazil, its largest in the world.
The complex Pereira Barreto, located in the namesake town in the state of Sao Paulo, consists of five solar parks and is equipped with close to 600,000 PV panels.
EDPR expects that the plant will be capable of generating 547,000 MWh per year, or enough to power a city with more than 750,000 inhabitants. It is estimated that the complex will each year avoid the emission of around 150 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere.
EDP Energias do Brasil SA (BVMF:ENBR3), the local arm of the Portuguese giant, will be in charge of the commercialization of Pereira Barreto's output on the Brazilian market.
Miguel Stilwell d'Andrade, the executive president of EDPR and its parent group EDP, said at the complex inauguration event that Brazil is the key market for EDPR's business plan.
"The expectation is even to inaugurate, in the medium and long term, other similar projects in the region," Stilwell d'Andrade said.
