EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) announced on Thursday it is joining forces with Amazon Web Services (AWS) regarding future wind and solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) and the provision of digital services.
Under the agreement, EDPR will develop wind and solar projects to be contracted through PPAs by the web services arm of US e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN). Primarily located in the US, Europe and Latin America, these new renewable power plants are expected to enter into operation in the period from 2023 to 2025, EDPR points out in the press release.
This agreement will potentially add to a total of 475 MW of such contracts already signed between the parties.
In regards to the other portion of the strategic collaboration, AWS will provide cloud, technology and digital services as EDPR’s preferred cloud provider.
“Our collaboration with EDPR will help toward our Climate Pledge commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2040 and power our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2030, a target we are on a path to meet 5 years early by 2025," said Miguel Alava, Managing Director, AWS Iberia.
