EDF Renewables cements market position in Israel with 100 MWp new capacity

EDF Renewables today announced the commissioning of five solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants with a combined installed capacity of 101 MWp in Israel.

The renewable energy business of French utility Electricite de France (EPA:EDF) now operates 17 solar power plants with nearly 300 MWp in total capacity across Israel.

“The commissioning of these photovoltaic power plants reinforces EDF Renewables’ leading position in Israel, where we already have over 25% of the installed capacity from renewable energy sources," Bruno Bensasson, EDF Executive Vice-President in charge of Renewable Energies and CEO of EDF Renewables, said.

All new additions - the Mashabei Sadeh (60 MWp), Pduyim (14 MWp), Mefalsim (13 MWp), Kfar Maimon (7 MWp) and Bitha (7 MWp) power plants are located in the Negev Desert, spreading 307,400 panels over close to 130 hectares.

EDF acquired the Mashabei Sadeh solar power plant at the project stage in 2017. The remaining four PV installations were among the winners in a mid-2017 tender that contracted solar power at EUR 47 (USD ) per MWh.

EDF’s CAP 2030 plan aims at doubling its worldwide renewable energy capacity between to 50 GW in 2030.
