EDF EN wins 252 MW wind, 90 MW solar in Mexico

The Mexican unit of EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) has secured off-take contracts for 252 MW of wind and 90 MW of solar power in Mexico’s latest auction.

The company, EDF EN Mexico S de RL de CV, said on Monday it will use Gamesa (BME:GAM) turbines for the Gunaa Sicaru wind project in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region in Oaxaca. Transmission capacity has been secured through the Federal Electricity Commission’s (CFE) Oaxaca Second Open Season.

EDF EN has also secured land and interconnection for the Bluemex Power solar project in Guaymas, Sonora. It will use bifacial solar photovoltaic (PV) modules.

Mexico’s second long-term auction awarded contracts for power supply, clean energy certificates (CELs) and power capacity with CFE, Mexico’s state utility. Joaquin Coldwell, Secretary of Energy, said last week the average price per MWh plus CEL achieved in the auction was USD 33.47 (EUR 30), down 30% from a similar competition in the spring.
