EDF EN takes 80% in 115-MWp Brazilian solar project

Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ) has sold 80% in the 115-MWp Pirapora II solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Brazil to EDF Energies Nouvelles (EN), the latter announced today.

The renewables arm of French utility EDF (EPA:EDF) said the deal brings to 489 MW the combined capacity of its projects under construction in Brazil. That includes 306 MWp of solar and 183 MW of wind.

EDF EN in October 2016 also bought an 80% interest in the 191.5-MWp Pirapora I solar scheme from Canadian Solar. The latter retains 20% in each of the projects, which will together produce enough power to meet the needs of some 323,000 homes. The projects in Minas Gerais state have 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs).

Canadian Solar will produce the PV panels for Pirapora II at its local factory. Commissioning of the solar power plant is expected in the first half of 2018, EDF said.
