Aug 13, 2013 - Brazilian renewable energy developer Empresa Brasileira de Energia (EBE) said yesterday it is ready to participate with its first PV solar plant, the 10-MW Kwara Russas I, in the A-3 energy auction to be held on October 25.
EBE has already filed a registration request with the state-run energy research company EPE for the plant and its adjacent transmission system.
Kwara Russas I forms part of a 100-MW PV solar complex, which EBE plans to develop in the municipality of Russas, northeastern Ceara state. Apart from Kwara Russas I, the complex, dubbed Parque Solar de Russas, will comprise other three facilities with capacity of 30 MW each.
According to EBE's CEO Augusto Rodrigues, the company is now in talks over the construction value and the solar panels supply with Chinese and US companies. In October 2012, EBE said the first plant would require USD 50 million (EUR 37.6m) investments.
The A-3 tender will meet distributors' demand as of 2016. It will offer wind energy and solar projects, biomass and gas-fired thermoelectric undertakings, and hydroelectric projects. Hydro power projects will sign 30-year power supply contracts, while the other projects will close agreements for 20 years.
