July 10 (Renewables Now) - The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with non-profit association Solar Head of State for the development of solar projects at key government buildings.
Under the MoU, inked last week in Jamaica, both entities will work together in order to create a regional strategy for photovoltaic (PV) power systems at government facilities in OECS member states, increasing public savings, OECS stated.
This agreement is in line with OECS' mission to contribute to the sustainable development of the region.
Solar Head of State has already begun works for the first PV system under this partnership. The solar array is being installed at the public residence of Saint Lucia's Governor-General. The 5.4-kW grid-tied system can offset 100 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) and save roughly USD 150,000 (EUR 128,150) during its lifetime, OECS noted.
