The Dominican Republic’s national energy commission has recently granted provisional concessions to three solar photovoltaic (PV) projects promising some 147 MWp of new capacity.
The provisional concession gives developers 18 months to conduct further studies and surveys on site before qualifying for definitive concessions.
One of the developers is Spanish renewables company Grupo Ecoener SAU (BME:ENER), which through a Dominican vehicle secured a provisional concession for the 36.56-MWp Cumayasa 2 project in the province of La Romana.
The second big name is Corporacion Zona Franca Santiago (CZFS), a Dominican company operating the industrial free zone in Santiago province. Through its vehicle Zonaxol SA, CZFS is seeking to build 60 MWp of solar arrays on warehouse rooftops within the zone.
The third prospective concessionaire is Renewable Energy World Dominicus (R.E.W.D). Its project does not appear to have a name and is listed in the commission’s documents as a “solar PV park of up to 50.004 MWp”. This project is also sited in La Romana province.
