October 3 (Renewables Now) - EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) and Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company Masdar have made the lowest bid of just SAR 0.06697 (USD 0.0178/EUR 0.0152) per kWh in a 300-MW solar tender in Saudi Arabia.

Local firm ACWA Power comes next with a bid of SAR 0.0878/kWh, the Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO) said in a webcast on Tuesday. The project will be awarded after all bids are evaluated, with the power purchase agreement (PPA) to be signed by the end of January, Turki al-Shehri of REPDO told Reuters.

Total of 27 companies had been shortlisted for the solar tender, announced in April. The power plant will be built in Sakaka in northwestern Saudi Arabia.

A bit more than a month ago, Saudi Arabia's energy ministry also announced a request for proposals (RfP) targeting 400 MW of wind power capacity in Dumat Al Jandal.
