August 26 (Renewables Now) - Brazilian power utility Companhia Paranaense de Energia (BVMF:CPLE6), better known as Copel, plans to hold an energy auction on September 20, 2019, to contract wind and solar power.

Copel did not disclose the specific amount of energy it seeks but stated in the tender notice that the new capacity will be used to meet demand in the Southeast, Midwest, South and Northeast markets.

The company will award power purchase agreements (PPA) with power supply set to start on January 1, 2023 and end on December 31, 2037 for both sources. To participate in the tender, companies have to meet certain conditions, such as having an installed capacity of at least 1 GW.

Interested parties have until September 16, 2019 to register with Copel. All the details can be found on the company's tender website (https://www.copel.com/hpcopel/root/sitearquivos2.nsf/arquivos/edital_copel_06-2019/$FILE/EDITAL_COPEL%2006-2019.pdf)
