January 13 (Renewables Now) - Brazilian power utility Companhia Paranaense de Energia (BVMF:CPLE6), better known as Copel, plans to hold three energy auctions this year, to contract wind and solar power.
The dates for the auctions are February 14, April 17 and September 21. Copel did not disclose the specific amount of energy it seeks but stated in the tender notice that the new capacity will be used to meet demand in the Southeast, Midwest, South and Northeast markets.
The company will award power purchase agreements (PPA) with a 14-year term for the first and third auctions, while the one in April will contract power for 12 years.

To participate in the tender, companies have to meet certain conditions, such as having an installed capacity of at least 1 GW.
