September 2 (Renewables Now) - Colombia’s third renewable energy auction drew interest from 107 companies seeking pre-qualification, SIN grid operator XM Compania de Expertos en Mercados, which is organising the event, has said.

Of the total, 55 companies have registered as off-takers, with 52 participants vying to sell power from non-conventional renewable energy sources. The deadline to register on the auction platform expired on August 27.

XM contrasted this year’s overwhelming response with that expressed in 2019, when 39 power producers and 29 off-takers registered to participate.

In the next stage, registered participants have to submit documents for pre-qualification by September 6. The full list of bidders will be known on October 20, while the auction itself is still scheduled for October 26, as announced previously.

Project promoters will be bidding to secure 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) under the commitment to start delivering the contracted electricity from January 1, 2023.
