Sep 29, 2014 - Chile's solar parks produced 32 GWh last month versus 0.1 GWh in August 2013, the energy ministry's Renewable Energy Centre (CER) said in its monthly report last week.
The country has 244 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity in operation and over 400 MW under construction, while an additional 110 MW of concentrated solar power (CSP) technology is being installed. The approved solar projects exceed 7,000 MW.
The report confirms expectations that 2014 will be crucial for the development of solar energy in Chile, CER's manager, Maria Paz De La Cruz, said.
The country's non-conventional renewable energy output totalled 430 GWh last month. The national installed capacity stands at 1,784 MW, including 624 MW launched this year, while 805 MW is under construction. Wind power capacity alone stands at 692 MW.
