(SeeNews) - Nov 18, 2013 - Chile's environmental authorities on Friday received for evaluation two photovoltaic projects of combined 170 MW, to be developed in Tarapaca and Antofagasta regions as part of the northern grid SING.<br /><br /> The first project, dubbed Pampa Solar, was proposed by local firm Pleiades SA which plans to install 120 MW in Pozo Almonte municipality. The park could produce electricity throughout the year, replacing fossil fuel.<br /><br /> The other project, the 50-MW Uribe Solar, will be developed by Fotovoltaica Norte Grande 5 SpA in Antofagasta municipality. The firm considers options to export the produced electricity through the Uribe, Capricornio or O'Higgins substations, owned by power distributor Emel, power generator E-CL (SCL:ECL) or copper miner Escondida, respectively.
