September 14 (SeeNews) - Chilean president Michelle Bachelet launched on Monday a public-private solar programme with a USD 800 million (EUR 712.40m) budget to cover 50 projects.
Named Transforma Solar, the programme seeks, among other objectives, to capitalise on the existence of exceptional solar resource in the Atacama desert and to provide efficient energy solutions to help improve the competitiveness of the national economy, the government said.
The programme will cover a variety of themes such as photovoltaic (PV) research, development and innovation projects focused on desert conditions, projects related to standards and certifications and projects concerned with the best locations for solar plants, among others.
This public-private initiative will help enhance and transform the current Chilean solar energy industry into a high-growth sector, the minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, Luis Felipe Cespedes, pointed out.
