April 25 (Renewables Now) - Latin American power producer and distributor Celsia SA on Friday inaugurated a 3-MW solar farm in Colombia it built for the local unit of Canada-headquartered oil-and-gas exploration company Parex Resources Inc (TSE:PXT).

The plant is located in the Colombian department of Casanare, specifically at the Kitaro/Akira field onshore field that Parex has been using to conduct hydrocarbon explorations for over ten years, Celsia said in Friday's press release.

The project took up some 3 hectares (7.4 acres) of land and used 7,200 solar PV panels and 30 inverters. The solar farm is integrated into the Kitaro/Akira field's energy mix, enabling Parex to generate its own power at competitive prices, added Celsia.

The power plant is expected to generate some 5,900 MWh per year.
