Brazil's power sector regulator suspends Sept 16 auction

September 12 (Renewables Now) - The Special Bidding Commission (CEL) of Brazil's power sector regulator Aneel has suspended the A-5 tender scheduled for September 16, 2022, due to an inconsistency in the Auction Management System - SGL.

According to an announcement by the regulator, CEL and the Power Trading Chamber (CCEE), the entity that operates the auction, are investigating the occurrence. A new schedule will be announced once the investigation is completed.

The auction will contract wind, solar photovoltaic (PV) power, hydro, energy from solid urban waste, biomass, biogas and coal. Its power delivery was set to start on January 1, 2027. Projects totalling roughly 83 GW have been registered to compete in the tender.

In August, Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy cancelled the A-6 tender, also scheduled for September 16, stating a lack of demand on the part of energy distributors as the main reason.
