Brazil's Pernambuco govt sets solar energy auction for Dec 27

Dec 17, 2013 - The government of the northeastern Brazilian state Pernambuco set a new date for its first auction for the sale and purchase of solar energy, this time scheduling it for December 27.

With the change, the deadline for registration of bidders will be postponed for December 20.

According to Pernambuco's energy secretary Eduardo Azevedo, the change in the timetable was due to the large number of requests for information on the auction by the interested in the bidding.

The solar power sellers and buyers can access the new bidding edict, including the new timetable, as of December 13, Azevedo added.

The power supply contracts to be signed following the auction stipulate the start of deliveries on May 1, 2015 for a 20-year term. The government targets to contract at least 12 average MW (MWa). The initiative forms part of the local government's programme PE Sustentavel, aimed at promoting the solar energy development in the state. The programme foresees similar auctions in the next three years and tax initiatives such as exemption of ICMS goods and services tax for Pernambuco's companies which buy solar power.
