Brazil's lower house okays tax exemption for solar equipment imports

September 27 (Renewables Now) - The Constitution, Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) Committee of Brazil's House of Representatives has approved a tax exemption for solar equipment imports.

The exemption will apply as long as there are no similar models produced in the country.

The CCJ analysis of the 8322/14 bill was restricted to the constitutional, legal and legislative technical aspects of the subject, the announcement says. As such, the rapporteur, deputy Antonio Carlos Nicoletti, recommended the approval of the bill's original text, rejecting the attachments and amendments put by the Mines and Energy Committee, which extended tax exemptions.

Previously approved by the Finance and Taxation Committee, the bill is under its final phase and thus will be put for presidential sanction, unless a request is made for analysis by the House's Chamber.
