Brazil to include solar, waste-to-energy projects in A-3 energy tender
Jun 28, 2013 - Brazilian government plans to include photovoltaic (PV), thermo solar and waste-to-energy projects, for the first time, in the next A-3 energy auction, after a number of requests by investors.
According to the president of Brazil's state-run energy research company EPE, Mauricio Tolmasquim, these two power sources will make their debut, as it happened with wind projects a year ago.
Initially, solar and waste-to-energy projects may not be competitive in comparison with other projects to be offered, but the price has been dropping globally hence this is a good opportunity to test this new offer, Tolmasquim commented.
A date for the A-3 auction has not been set yet, but probably it will be held in October, Tolmasquim added.
One of EPE's requirements for participation in the auction will be the availability of solar certification, EPE's head noted without giving further details.
