December 1 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy announced today that it plans to hold a new renewable energy auction on April 4, 2018.

Through a decree published in the Official Gazette, the government confirmed that the auction is dubbed as A-4. It will contract power from solar, wind, hydro and thermal plants that use biomass resources.

The tender will be awarding 30-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for hydro and 20-year PPAs for the remaining sources. Power supply is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2022.

Energy plants that enter into commercial operation prior to the publication of this tender's public notice will not be able take part in the process, the ministry said.

There are four energy auctions scheduled to take place this month, one of which is another A-4 type with around 47,965 MW of registered capacity.
