The Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy said Thursday that the reserve energy auction, exclusively for solar projects, will be held on August 28 instead of August 14.
State-owned energy firm Empresa de Pesquisa Energetica (EPE) has accredited 382 solar photovoltaic (PV) projects with a combined capacity of 12,528 MWp for this reserve energy auction.
Once again Bahia is the leading state with 140 projects in total, which represents a combined capacity of 4,400 MWp. In second place is Piaui with 61 projects exceeding 2,000 MWp.
In October 2014, Brazil held its first energy auction including PV projects. At the time 890 MW of PV power were contracted with an average price of BRL 215.12 (USD 70.3/EUR 61.7) per MWh. Solar experts were worried that the price was too low and LAS Research founder Rugi Kavamahanga recently said that the vast majority of the 890 MW winning projects may not be realised due to financing issues.
