Brazil registers over 106 GW of renewables for Sept 16 tenders

May 26 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's state-owned energy research firm EPE unveiled on Wednesday that more than 106 GW of renewable energy projects have been registered for the two auctions that will be held sequentially on September 16, 2022.

The A-5 and A-6 tenders will contract wind, solar photovoltaic (PV) power, hydro, energy from solid urban waste, biomass, biogas, coal and natural gas. Overall, 2,766 energy projects will compete for contracts.

The winners will secure power purchase agreements (PPA) with a 15-year term for wind and solar, and 20 years for the remaining projects.

Power supply is set to commence on January 1, 2027 for A-5 and January 1, 2028 for A-6 winners, the government said previously.
