Jul 9, 2013 - Brazilian energy sector watchdog Aneel yesterday received a request for an independent producer licence from the 30-MW photovoltaic (PV) solar plant UFV Engardy 1.
The request includes the plant's adjacent transmission system. The facility is located in the Caico municipality, northeastern Rio Grande do Norte state.
Independent power producers are able to sell their surplus energy and distribute energy to large consumers, paying concessionaires for the use of transmission lines. The main difference between independent producers and concessionaires in Brazil is that the first operate at their own risk.
