Brazil, France ink MoU on PV cells technology transfer

Dec 14, 2012 - Brazil's Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade announced it had signed this week a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the French government for the transfer of photovoltaic (PV) cells production technology.
The cooperation accord, to be valid two years, envisages the vertical integration of production -- from silicon purification to the manufacturing of photovoltaic cells, modules and systems.
According to the Ministry, an economic viability study will be carried out in order to evaluate the possibilities for the construction of a PV research institute and a factory in Brazil in order to facilitate the technology transfer. The study is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2013.
