Brazil extends deadline for May energy tender submissions

January 20 (Renewables Now) - Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy announced on Wednesday it has rescheduled to 1200 local time of January 24, 2022, the deadline for projects submission in the A-4 May 27 energy auction.

The decree published in the Official Gazette does not mention any specific reason for the extension. The previous deadline was January 19.

Investors and interested parties looking to submit projects for registration have to do so with Brazil's state-owned energy research firm EPE.

The ministry has said previously that renewable projects technically qualified for the A-5 auction in 2021 would be allowed to re-enter the new tender.

The auction will award power purchase agreements (PPA) with a 15-year term for wind and solar, and with 20-year terms for hydropower and biomass-based thermal schemes. Power supply is scheduled to start on January 1, 2026.
