Brazil Eletrosul awards 1-MWp solar plant construction to Portuguese Efacec
Aug 27, 2012 - Brazil's energy utility Eletrosul on Friday signed a contract for the construction of its 1-megawatt peak (MWp) photovoltaic (PV) plant with a consortium formed by Portuguese electronics and engineering company Efacec and its Brazilian arm Efacec do Brasil.
According to Eletrosul's press release, the consortium offered to execute the project, dubbed Megawatt Solar, for some BRL 8.1 million (USD 4m/EUR 3.2m), thus winning the international tender launched by the company. The plant is scheduled to be completed in eight months.
It will be installed on the roof of Eletrosul's headquarters in Florianopolis, southern Santa Catarina state, and its energy production will be sold on the free market.
Megawatt Solar will be generating 1.2 GWh per year on average, enough to meet the annual electricity consumption of about 570 homes, Eletrosul noted.
