Brazil Celpe to launch 400-kWp solar plant on Fernando de Noronha island by year-end

(SeeNews) - Mar 27, 2013 - Brazilian electricity distributor Celpe (SAO:CEPE5), a subsidiary of local power holding company Neoenergia, will kick off a 400-kWp solar power installation on the Fernando de Noronha archipelago by the end of 2013.
This is the first time a solar project is being installed in a Brazilian isolated power system like is the one of the archipelago.
The project, which is being supervised by Brazilian power sector regulator Aneel, is seen to produce 600 MWh, equal to 6% of the main island's consumption.
The equipment supply, construction, monitoring and maintenance of the plant has been just awarded to Brazilian energy equipment maker WEG (SAO:WEGE3).
The 7,000 sq m (75,347 sq ft) plot which will host the solar plant belongs to the Brazilian Air Force. Later, the facility will be donated to the federal government.
