July 20 (Renewables Now) - Atlas Renewable Energy has signed a 19-year solar power purchase agreement (PPA) with Brazilian chemical company Unipar Carbocloro SA (BVMF:UNIP6).

The PPA is linked to the development of the 239-MWp Lar do Sol Casablanca II photovoltaic (PV) park in Minas Gerais state. The facility will supply two of Unipar’s factories, Atlas said last week.

Consisting of 460,000 modules, the Lar do Sol PV plant is expected to produce enough power to meet the demand of a city of over 261,662 households and offset around 40,500 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year, once completed.

The Lar do Sol will be developed, built and operated by Atlas. Currently, the renewables firm has six large-scale solar plants amounting to over 1 GW in the Brazilian market, it pointed out.
