Argentine wind power company Parque Eolico Arauco (PEA) on Thursday launched construction works on the 100-MW Arauco III wind project in Argentina’s province of La Rioja.
The new USD-120-million (EUR 114.7m) project will expand the Arauco I and II wind farms, and the income from them is being reinvested in Arauco III, the Argentine government said.
The Arauco III park will feature 28 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines.
PEA is majority-owned by the La Rioja provincial government, with state-owned oil-and-gas firm IEASA holding a minor stake. The company has plans to expand the Arauco I and II sections in multiple stages, which would boost the size of the Arauco complex to close to 500 MW.
