Argentina's Jujuy secures 300 MW of PV projects in tender

Argentina's Jujuy government announced on Friday it is to win 300 MW in solar projects in the country's 1-GW energy tender.

The rate offered for the projects is USD 60 (EUR 54m) per MWh, governor Gerardo Morales said in the press release.

A statement by the Argentine energy ministry shows that the lowest solar bid in the tender wast at around USD 59/MWh. Total of 50 projects, or 2,305 MW of solar power capacity, are competing for long-term power purchase contracts, alongside wind, bioenergy and small hydro projects.

The Jujuy capacity is comprised of three photovoltaic (PV) projects named Cauchari 1, 2 and 3, each with 100 MW. Around USD 340 million will be invested in these schemes, of which 80% will come from the state and 20% from private groups, the local government said. Talks for support have been initiated with Chinese companies.

The projects will fall under the responsibility of Jujuy's State Energy and Mining Society (JEMSE).
