Argentina switches on 80-MW PV plant in San Juan

May 10 (Renewables Now) - The government of Argentina's San Juan province inaugurated on Thursday a 80-MW photovoltaic (PV) plant in Iglesia municipality and said that work on a phase-two project has commenced.

The Guanizuil 1 project required a total investment of USD 103 million (EUR 91.8m). The PV facility is to generate enough power to meet the demand of more than 55,000 homes, the government announced.

The solar farm, developed by Chinese solar module maker JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd (NYSE:JKS), has a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) at USD 54.10 per MWh with the country's wholesale electric market management company CAMMESA. Secured in Argentina's RenovAr 1.5 renewable energy auction. It consists of 287,080 solar panels.
