Andes Mainstream seeks permit for 88 MW solar park in Chile

Sep 26, 2013 - Andes Mainstream, the Chilean subsidiary of Ireland-based Mainstream Renewable Power, yesterday submitted for environmental evaluation an 88 MW solar project in Coquimbo region estimated at USD 160 million (EUR 118.6m).

The plant, dubbed Estancia and to be connected to Chile's main power network SIC through the Punta Colorada substation, will operate with nearly 294,400 photovoltaic panels.

The plant will be built in La Higuera municipality to supply the growing demand of clean energy, using renewable resources of the area, the firm said in its presentation to the authorities.

Mainstream is currently building its first local plant, a 33 MW wind farm in Biobio region, projected to operate as of October.
