Ambev to use solar at all brewery distribution sites in Brazil
Ambev's PV plant in Goias
Brazilian beer giant Ambev (BVMF:ABEV3) is planning to build 48 solar plants by the end of the year or the first quarter of 2021 at the latest, the firm announced recently.
Consisting of 51,000 solar panels in total, these photovoltaic (PV) farms will supply the company's entire network of brewery distribution centres in Brazil. In total, BRL 140 million (USD 25.6m/EUR 21.7m) will be spent on this initiative.
Originally, Ambev had planned to develop 31 PV parks in 28 cities. Now the beer company is looking to implement solar plants in 48 municipalities, spread across 21 states plus the Federal District. The first solar array from the bundle is already operational in the state of Goias.
Ambev expects that the combined output of the power plants will offset 4,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.
Energy companies Solution, GD Solar and Gera Energia, are assisting Ambev in the construction of the solar farms, the brewer said.
