November 8 (Renewables Now) - Brazilian power producer AES Tiete Energia SA is considering entering the December auctions to secure contracts for solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by AES Brasil president Julian Nebreda during a teleconference. According to him, solar projects have the advantage that they can be developed very quickly.

The company aims to ensure that by 2020 around 50% of its earnings come from non-hydro renewables with long-term contracts. The plan includes also acquisitions and investments in distributed generation (DG) projects for commercial and industrial customers.

Back in October, AES Tiete inaugurated its Generation Operations Centre in the city of Bauru, Sao Paulo state. The centre operates remotely all the plants of the company, including the level of reservoirs and renewable energy on the grid.
