November 2 (Renewables Now) - Argentine oil group YPF SA (BCBA:YPFD) will supply 185 GWh of wind power per year to cover roughly 60% of the consumption of local fertiliser company Profertil in Buenos Aires province.

Through YPF Luz, the company will deliver power to Profertil's factory in Ingeniero White, close to the Argentine town of Bahia Blanca, and specialised in granular urea production, the fertilizer firm said on Thursday.

The supply covers a period of 21 years and thus represents the longest such contract in the country. The power allocated to the plant is enough to meet the annual demand of 52,700 homes. Overall, the production plant will be able to offset around 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year while generating 760,000 tonnes of fertiliser annually, Profertil noted.

Currently, YPF Luz has 2,495 MW of projects under development, scheduled to be completed by 2020, CEO Martin Mandarano stated.
