Younicos to provide 1-MW storage system for Panasonic facility in Colorado
Younicos system for Panasonic’s Denver operations hub
Energy storage company Younicos today announced a contract for a 1 MW/2 MWh energy storage system with strategic partner Panasonic Corp (TYO:6752).
The installation will be located at Pena Station NEXT in Denver, Colorado, which houses the operations hub for Panasonic Enterprise Solutions Company and Panasonic CityNOW.
It will feature four units of Younicos' modular plug-and-play storage product for commercial and industrial applications, called Y.Cube.
The storage system will be connected to Xcel Energy Inc's (NYSE:XEL) power grid. It will provide frequency regulation, solar grid integration through ramp control, grid peak shaving, passive energy arbitrage and backup power. Younicos said that Panasonic, Xcel Energy and other microgrid stakeholders will in this way be able to make the most of Xcel Energy’s 1.6-MW solar system located on a nearby parking structure, as well as 259 kW of panels on the building's rooftop.
