Yamada Denki to install, sell 10 MW of solar plants - report

Jul 31, 2013 - Japanese electrical appliances retailer Yamada Denki Co Ltd (TYO:9831) will build 10 MW of solar systems and sell them in small portions next year, the Nikkei said on Friday.

The firm intends to construct 200 solar power plants of 50 kW each on 700-sq-m (4,306 sq ft) sites. Each plot of land, together with the photovoltaic (PV) panels on it will be sold for about JPY 20 million (USD 204m/EUR 154m). Sales are to commence at the beginning of 2014, according to the daily. The sites, planned to be mainly in Japan's Gunma prefecture on Honshu island, will be offered mainly to small and middle-sized businesses.

Every 50-kW solar installation is estimated to produce over 50,000 kWh of power annually.

Yamada Denki will manage the land and the PV systems for a 20-year period in return for a fee of 5%-8% of the revenue from the plants' electricity sales. The volume electronics retailer expects to generate JPY 4 billion in revenue from selling lots in the first year.
