April 5 (SeeNews) - Hong Kong-based Xinyi Solar Holdings Ltd (HKG:00968) said Friday it has hooked to the grid a 20-MW floating photovoltaic (PV) array in central Anhui province at the very end of March.

The aquaculture-solar power hybrid demonstration plant is located on idle land at a coal mining subsidence area in the city of Huainan. The solar farm, which required a total investment of CNY 200 million (USD 30.9m/EUR 27.2m), is the largest floating one in the world to date, the company said in a statement.

The solar system is expected to be able to generate some 23 GWh of electricity annually. Apart from producing power, it will aid the local fishing industry by providing shade and limiting algae growth, the developer explained.

The company, a unit of Xinyi Glass Holdings, is focused on making solar glass, but has also expanded into the downstream solar power generation segment. In a separate press release the same day, Xinyi Solar announced the completion of a large-scale PV plant in the Binhai New Area of Tianjin municipality.
