Spanish solar developer and operator X-Elio has formed a joint venture (JV) with US sector player Sofos Harbert Renewable Energy that aims to develop and build solar parks across the US.
The partners will initially focus their activities on the southeastern US market but plan to expand into other regions in the coming years, as well, X-Elio said last week. The Spanish firm explained that the deal is in line with its plans to grow in the US, where it expects to have 170 MW of operational photovoltaic (PV) capacity by the end of next year.
“We have the certainty that the Southeastern region of the US is going to be one of the most important solar energy markets in the upcoming years [..], said Juan Mayoral, CEO of Sofos Harbert.
According to the press release, X-Elio is currently working on several other projects and partnerships in the US so as to lift its development activity there. Just last week, the company acquired a 103-MW solar project in South Carolina from US-based National Renewable Energy Corp (Narenco).
