December 3 (Renewables Now) - Spain-based solar developer and operator X-Elio has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with local energy provider Nexus Energia that allows it to build a 50-MW solar plant in the Almeria region.
The photovoltaic (PV) project is already in an advanced stage and is expected to start power generation in the second half of 2021.
Once fully commissioned, the PV facility is expected to generate around 100 GWh of clean energy per year, which is enough to meet the annual demand of approximately 30,000 local homes. It is also estimated that the solar park will offset more than 65,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
With this PPA, Nexus Energia will manage a portfolio of around 10 TWh per year in 2020, which corresponds to a growth of over 100% compared to the previous year, the company noted.
